"Women's bodies have their own wisdom, and a system of birth refined over 100,000 generations is not so easily overpowered." -- Sarah Buckley

Birth Doula Services

It's important to find a doula who is a great match for the mother and her partner or other support person. I offer a free, 1-hour "meet and greet" where we can get to know each other, talk about your desired birth experience, and where I can answer any questions you have about my services. We should be able to determine after that hour whether we will work well together, but I encourage you to discuss it privately before making a decision.

My services include:
  • 2 Prenatal visits: We'll discuss your plans for your birth, explore comfort measures for pain and fatigue, define the role each person will take in the birth, and continue to get to know each other. I can lend you books or videos from my library, or recommend books or videos for purchase or from the library.
  • Continuous labor support: I will be on call 24/7 from 2 weeks prior to your estimated delivery date until the baby is born. I will join you whenever you are ready for me, at your home or place of birth, and will be with you continuously until 1-2 hours after your baby is born and your new family is settled in.
  • 2 Postpartum visits: At these visits I can answer questions about newborn care, assist with breastfeeding if you are having difficulties, and help with small errands around the house. At the second visit, we will discuss your labor and birth to ensure that you are left with a positive overall experience.

Fees

The cost for this service is $700, with a $300 deposit due when we sign a contract and the balance due within 4 weeks of the birth. I can occasionally offer a sliding scale, so if you are unable to pay that amount, please discuss it with me. We can also set up a payment plan if needed. Once we sign a contract, I am on call for you 24/7 from two weeks prior to your estimated delivery date until the baby is born, and available for phone or email support at any time.

I have a TENS (Transcutaneous Electric Nerve Stimulation) unit for rent, which can be useful for back pain during labor. It requires authorization by your doctor or midwife.

Please see A Doula's Fees to learn about the costs a doula must cover when setting fees.

Availability

I'm currently accepting clients. I typically accept 2-4 clients per month, depending on the estimated delivery date and other commitments.
