Welcome to Dragonfly Doula!

We all have different life experiences that affect our ideas about birth. Every woman should have the opportunity to achieve her picture of a perfect birth, whether that means a home birth with a midwife or a medicated birth in a hospital with an obstetrician. My role as a doula is to support your vision, whatever that may be!

I provide professional labor support throughout the Seattle area. It is such a privilege to serve a woman and her partner as a birth doula, and to be a witness to the new life they are bringing into the world. My goal is to help women have gentle, peaceful births that honor the strength and courage within, to move beyond any fears they may have, and to remind them that they are fully capable of giving birth! Having a doula makes a difference!

According to The Doula Book, Second Edition by Klaus, Kennell and Klaus (2002), the presence of a doula reduces:
  • The overall Cesarean rate by roughly 45%
  • The length of labor by 25%
  • Oxytocin use by 50%
  • Pain medications by 31%
  • The need for forceps by 34%
  • The request for epidurals by 10-60%
"If there was a machine that cost $200,000, reduced the cesarean rate by half, cut the length of labor by 2½ hours and decreased other interventions, hospitals would have 2, 3, or 4 of the machines. It's hard for us to believe that human support can have such a profound effect on a medical outcome." — Dr. Marshall H. Klaus talking about doulas on the "Today Show"
